With the opening of our new gallery in 2023, we nearly doubled our display footprint, thanks in very large part to Linda Schiesser (1944-2025). Linda was a longtime champion and supporter of the Swiss Center's mission, and her belief that we must preserve our Swiss heritage inspired her to provide a major gift to allow us to transform our unused lower level into a beautiful display and meeting space.
Linda was also an accomplished scherenschnitte artist. Her creations were exhibited at the Smithsonian, White House, and the Swiss National Museum in Zurich, and she was a popular scherenschnitte teacher in southern Wisconsin. Pieces that she and her mother, Elda Schiesser, created can be viewed at the Swiss Center.
On Sunday, August 6, 2023 we celebrated the opening of the Linda Schiesser Gallery with the new consul general of Switzerland in Chicago Pascal Bornoz and deputy consul general Joerg Oberschmied. We are happy to say several hundred people joined us to celebrate.
